Dino Ottavi
Senate Independence

"Parliament should be for the people.  Federal Senate should be beholden to people and not to political parties.  As an Independent Senate candidate, I would deliver this because I will listen to the people of Tasmania"   Dino Ottavi

Election Update:

The final Senate results for this years election has seen 3 Labor, 2 Liberal, 1 Green.  Our Independent group has attracted the 7th highest primary (number one) vote in Tasmania and that is a great achievement.

Mick Cook, Chris Smallbane and myself, have definitely proven that the domination of political parties in the Senate CAN be challenged and independent people can help to make the Senate Independent.

We, the people, want real independence.  I will not rest until the Senate will represent the people and not political parties.

Thank you to all of our families, friends, supporters, and helpers.  If you wish to be part of a network to make the Senate Independent and receive a regular electronic newsletter that we will be developing, then email me and register your email address.

Thank you to all that have again believed in us.

In 2004, Dino Ottavi was an Independent Senate Candidate who appeared in the ballot paper below the line. In that election, Dino came 9th overall, pulling the highest primary (No.1) vote in the whole of Australia for an Independent Senate Candidate below the line. (Refer "Voting in the Senate")

In this election, Dino organised himself with partners, Chris Smallbane and Mick Cook. This means that Dino had an Independent Senate Group thus allowing him to be both above and below the line. Regular changes to the Electoral Act from Federal Governments continually make it difficult for individual candidates below the line.

Dino was born in Hobart in 1964. He attended Rosetta High School and Hobart Matriculation College and in 1986 graduated with a Batchelor of Arts from the University of Tasmania , majoring in Political Science, Australian History and Sociology.

In 1985, Dino began his career in the Public Service - both Federal and State sectors. He has had experience as an Industrial Advocate and Training Consultant and specialised in the areas of bullying, harassment, workplace harmony, as well as rights and responsibilities.

Dino has a strong sense of Social Justice and Human Rights. He has the capacity to show both empathy and a willingness to fight for what is right. He would be an excellent advocate in the Senate as a true "people" person.
